LEGO Speed Champions

Collectibles in 2025

I only started collecting LEGO Speed Champions in the last year. It feels like something fun to do that’s nostalgic of being a kid building various vehicles with my LEGO sets on Saturday mornings combined with great cartoons.

Why I Started Collecting

I’ve only a few sets from the LEGO Speed Champion series, which started because I read an article about discontinuation of production that could lead to increasing values. Certain kits are more rare and appreciate in value especially after they’re discontinued, such as the Porsche 911. After I bought my first kit I remembered the feeling of just being a kid having simple fun. That’s when I decided to casually collect more models. I wasn’t trying to buy every single Speed Champions at my local Target, but I gravitated towards certain cars such as the Toyota Supra, Dodge Charger and Nissan GT-R R34 from the Fast and the Furious movies, McLaren Senna, and 007’s Aston Martin DB5. These remain boxed for collective purposes. If I get an itch to build one then I’ll buy two of the same model. There’s a new Ferrari F40 which would be a great candidate to buy two sets of.

Brick Economics

There are some great websites that dive into economics of LEGO Speed Champions. Here are a couple:

I remember buying the 76897 LEGO Speed Champions 1985 Audi Sport Quattro S1 rally car as a gift for about $15.00, and now I’m seeing it for $70 on Amazon as of writing this! I should’ve bought one for myself, or ten!

What’s Next?

There’s a new F1 series that’s currently releasing that has 10 cars in total. I don’t follow F1 much, but I will follow this Speed Champions series release. It seems that the average retail pricing has increased to about $27.00 before taxes, and I’ve read it’s possible to continue to increase since the Speed Champions series are popular. I’ll continue to post when I get new kits.

Do you have any LEGO collectibles? Do you keep them boxed or build them?
